November is National Novel Writers Month, fondly known as NaNoWriMo. Writers the world over burn the midnight oil to finish the 50,000 words required to “complete” a novel. But as we all know, 50K words isn’t a novel, at least, not an adult novel. After November, the author must struggle to edit the manuscript into something if not interesting, at least readable. What does an author do?
In this class, students will look at their work critically and learn to write well-constructed sentences, active verbs, and pick up the pacing the first time instead of after agonizing through edits. We’ll look at how other published authors turned their NaNo Novels into published works and learn to use those tips and tricks as more tools for our writer’s toolbox. We’ll also discuss how to better prepare ourselves for next year’s NaNoWriMo.
